They come on when I turn on the ignition, the dipped come on when it gets dark and they go off when I turn of the ignition. The only problem I have is that when I drive any other car I don't remember to put on the lights!
Position I is to the left ( OFF )
Position II is parking lights
position III is to the right ( headlamps on in normal terms ) :-)

In that case my XC70 has the lights switch set permanently to Position I. I should have looked in the owners manual, it's all explained on Page 86 of my edition.

I recant about the high beam flashing. I was wrong about pushing forwards and backwards. The two positions are slight pull back for flash and full pull back to a latched position for permanent high beam selection. Sorry

I think it’s strange that there’s no warning tone when you leave the side lights on and leave the vehicle, especially as it warns me about everything else that happens during the course of a journey.

There is a green warning light , anyway not a problem with the LED's if you are lucky enough to have them :-)

Yes I’m aware of the light, and I also have LED front and rear. But it’s strange that there’s no warning tone with it. I’ve got LED in the number plate lights, but I need to change them because they’re too blue for my liking.

Go for 4000K LEDs (4300K max) for the number plate lights - I use the Osram ones, which cost a fair bit, but they seem to last well and definitely give out a perfect colour light (for me). Any higher (6000K is common) is too blue IMHO...

the lower the K the more light output and warmer the colour ...

Yes, that's right. It's all about finding the colour that works for your eyes...

Hi,

Just on the off chance, would this "feature" be part of the Volvo home feature where lights stay on (including door mirror lights) for a set period of time?
Should be something in the menu system to enable and set the duration.

Des. . .

Where's the green light you're referring to? Is it on the instrument cluster?

If I leave the side lights on, there's no green light on my dash? Unless I'm missing something.

Its easy to get out of the car & leave them on, as there's no audible warning either.
