whilst out cycling I found some course green landscaping net, so set about trimming it.

Remove bolts and plastic trim clip as shown.

Insert up into void, fold the outer edge up a bit, an curl it up as well.

BINGO! Total time 20 mins, from unlocking the car, cost £0.

Good idea. The drain arrangement is a bit stupid.

Thumbs up

A very common mod on Rover 75's & MG ZT's both saloon and tourers of diesel variants, as BMW saw fit to put an ECU in the plenum which can get blocked and flood the ECU causing no end of grief and expense!!! A brilliant idea!!!

That's a really nice mod. Since everyone who looked at the thread on bonnet latch switches saw my XC70 with the best part of a fir tree in the engine bay, it's one I need to do!

The next step is the strange piece of foam down the wing aperture which seems to be designed to hold water against a metal surface long enough to encourage corrosion!

I noticed this foam while grovelling around under our V70 recently. Why is it there? Is it just soundproofing or does it fulfil some vital function that will fail if it's removed?

It must be for sound deadening. Agree it's appears to be a bit of a daft idea.

As for leaking bulkheads.... BMW 5 series has a 4" grommet on the bulkhead where the LHD steering column would pass through. Unfortunately in front of it is sound deadening that retains water, so sooner or later it start filling the passenger footwell, starting from the rear forwards. Had to add some drain holes to the sound deadening to allow it to drain. It was faster doing that tan taking to the dealer to fix (leased company car - trips to BMW dealer to be avoided at all costs - staggeringly painful experiences).

Cleaning my scuttle out last autumn I got a shock when something moved within the leaves - it turned out to be an adult Great Diving Beetle. Never have managed to work out why, or how, it got there...
