Default RTi not opening

my C30 has the factory fitted RTi which worked great till today. Now it is stuck closed, as the unit thinks it is up it still works, you can here the motor whirring on engine start and shutdown; however it remains in the closed position.
I have looked at a few posts and it looks like a broken gear cog, most people say it costs a holy fortune as Volvo just replace the unit. I have found a post where a guy gets it going wiyh a cog from a hp printer !!
What I was wandering is has anyone ever got this professionally fixed at a reasonable cost?
If not I will have a go myself but any tips woulld be gratefully accepted

thanks

They do? Is it a new set of coggs?

I know that the plastic coggs snap/grind off and that you can remove the coggs, turn them a little and refit and it works too...

Well, according to Volvo Cars Germany, there isn't a repair kit and you need to buy the entire unit.

The repair kit was only introduced last month , maybe a UK only thing?
