Default Volvo Extended Warranty v Warranty Direct...etc?

Looking ahead to keeping my V90 beyond the current 3 year warranty period and looking for advice to which extended warranty package to go for?

I know many on this forum have relatively new cars, but there are a good number who have XC90’s, that are coming up to 3 years old.

Since around 2004, I have normally change my Volvo’s every 2 years, but now my average annual milage of 25k has dropped to around 7/8k, I do not think it makes economical sense to change (over the weekend, I built a like for like V90 and ended up over £42k).

When I bought the car in October 2016, I did look ahead and bought Volvo’s 5 year service package for £500, but with the car being so complicated, I feel, for peace of mind, I need to take out an extended warranty.

Advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

tem.

Buy the manufacturer version, even its double. That way you’ve the dealer in your corner and some leverage, even if its ultimately with a third party.

Direct third party warranties are very hit and miss.

My 3 years are up in June, like you I also purchased the 5 year service pack for £500, which was a no brainer, I will shortly be buying the Volvo extended warranty.
I have had a second hand Volvo select vehicles in the past and it had an extended warranty which I used once with no hassle or inconvenience, it only needed Volvo approval to carry out the work, which the dealer organised.

I am buying my car on 1.3.19 from the lease company. I will buy a 3rd party warranty from the dealer. Volvo warranty is no good as my mileage is too high. Dealer sells a warranty called Automation Gold I think. 600 quid for 3 years and unlimited mileage. Would be sceptical but as dealer is selling it I feel I have a better chance with claiming....

I'm in the throes of buying the Volvo extended warranty. Minimal price difference between Volvo and equivalent (Warranty Direct I think) - I believe the Volvo scheme is provided by WD. Tried to buy it through the Volvo website the other day and could only see a 1-yr renewal (I want 2 yrs). Phoned and was told to talk to the dealer to get the 2-yr. Popped in to the dealer today... and they have to get their finance person to call me back because its 'insurance' and hence a financial product! Needs someone FCA-certified. Sigh...

But I agree - although the Volvo extended warranty isn't quite as comprehensive as the initial 3-yr warranty, there is still less likelihood of hassle/inconvenience (I hope!).

Volvo warranty is restricted to 4 yrs and 80k miles or 5 yrs and 100k miles isn't it?

Seems to be extend to 4yrs/60k miles or 4yrs/80k miles (the latter is £50 more. Still waiting for info, but I suspect the 5yr may be the same mileage limits (60k and 80k)

My XC90 is 3 years and 8 months old and on 33K, I bought the extended service pack and extended warranty when the car was 3 yrs in June last year. Typically 2 weeks after the warranty ran out the turbo hose went - it wasn't covered by the new warranty.

Like others have said, I bought it because it is a big expensive piece of kit, and could cost you if something were to go wrong.

I was also mindful that mine was one of the first gen cars and that might increase potential problems.
Other than the hose issue that the car has been fine.

Default Extended Warranty.

2015 xc60 D5.
1st year £445.
2nd year £595.
Quite expensive but has extra benefits: accommodation, onward travel, like for like during repair (limited)
Not needed to claim so no comment on that.
Just over a thousand pounds over two years, quite a bit towards any repairs if no cover taken and money to next car if not spent.
Pay your money take your wares.
