That would be great, thanks.

I now have 2 rear fogs.

I didn’t need to replace the rear light units on my 1992 940 when I acquired it in 2005. I simply did as James has done. It didn't even affect the bulb failure warning circuit. I did similar on my daughter’s V40 at the time. She later had a V50 and now has an XC70 but I haven’t been able to do the same on them.

I'm sure my 240 had 2 rear fog lights. Its due it's MOT end of October and I'll see what the MOT man says.

James.
My 760 left the factory with 2 rear fog lights. The only reason manufacturers dropped it down to one (on many different marques) is cost or to be more exact, PROFIT!!!!!

They can make more money as they only have to supply one bulb and holder.

There is a minimum distance between the stop and rear fog lights to avoid confusion and if you need to slam the anchors on because you've suddenly seen a pair of rear fog lights and think they're brake lights, you're driving too fast for the conditions anyway!

The only time you'll get an MoT fail for two rear fogs is if the offside one stops working, a blown bulb say.

You must have at least one rear fog on cars made after July 1980. That must be either centrally mounted or on the offside. Also the rear fog must be at least 4" (i think) from the stop light.
Both the rear fog and stop lights use a 21W bulb, the reflector and lens design of the rear fog create a higher intensity.

I updated the rear lights in mine a couple of weeks back (Thanks Luke!) so had to do the "fog light mod", cut the hole out of the reflector with a Stanley knife after making a template using pencil, paper and the other lamp.
Next rear lighting upgrade is LED bulbs and dual purpose indicators/extra reverse lamps.

I see now, thanks. I think my 940 had 2 fogs as standard, can’t remember when testing the lights only have 1 of anything.

700-series estates and 900-series ones with the orange indicator lenses had two rear fog lamps; the factory clear indicator units (at least the flush-sided ones) only have one on the driver's side so you'd have to source an LHD and an RHD driver's unit to have the two fitted, or butcher the near-side unit to fit the lamp-holder.
I retrofitted orange indicator ones to the Exxon Valdez because it was easier than trying to make a pretty job of the N/S rearfog lamp's earth lead - there was a track for the earth leads on the units fited originally and it stopped short of the rear fog lamp holder. Possibly the aftermarket units have the full-length track.

I'm not entirely sure about cost: it must be expensive to produce 4 distinct rear lamp styles - UK RH with rear fog and LH with reversing lamp and Europe RH with reversing lamp and LH with rear fog. Or they leave the lamp in place but omit the last couple of inches of wiring and the specialised connector (Opel/Vauxhall Zafira B where that's exactly what they've done). And some manufacturers are just plain inconsistent: Audi and BMW fit two rear fogs on some but not all models.

A nice looking tank you've got James, I have the tensioner here for you if you still want it, there was something else you needed too wasn't there?

You're very welcome for the parts, see what I mean about the repair on the hazard cover? I'm very pleased with it if I say so myself haha.

Thanks Luke,

I have sent you a PM.

The photo's make the paintwork look much better than it is.
If money was no object it would have a full respray, especially bonnet, rear offside quarter and bumpers. Rear bumper beam, rotten, hence sagging/ misaligned.
Only a workhorse, so imagined rear tow bar needed to be removed to remove bumper trim and not worth the hassle.
Your hazard cover repair is invisible. Looks great and sorts out another job.

Many thanks. James

To be honest it is only 8 bolts holding the tow bar on, however Irwin bolt removers are likely to be your best friend when removing them as they are always rusty and round off a bit.

In that case, 6-sided sockets are going to be helpful to minimise the rounding off as well.
