Default Manifold vacuum hose

Got a wee question, what purpose does this vacuum line serves on the manifold. Car seems to run better if I block the hose.

Added the picture below

Thanks

Not sure the exact purpose (idle vacuum and/or vapour extraction), but I think if you follow the pipe under the manifold it has a non-return valve in it. I think it should close under positive pressure/boost, so this might explain why it runs better if you block it off. Have a look at Volvo Part number 1275226 to see what I mean. I have found they can stick open.

Hope this helps.
