Next Problem
Following on from the heater control valve failing, I now have no spark at the plugs, (but a good spark from the coil) It was running fine with the replacement HCV in place then last night it stuttered about twice, the lamda light came on, and it was all over. I am assuming that the large quantity of steam released when the HCV failed has penetrated the distributor and condensed shorting out the ignition, question is will it be a "simple" case of drying out the dizzy cap (I'll probably replace it while it's off anyway) or is there likely to be some additional electrical gubbins in there that will need replaced? Anybody had similar problems? (Even if it wasn't the distributor!)
As usual any advice gratefully received! Best Regards Ian |

There is nothing inside the distributor apart from the rotor arm so drying it should work.
It might also be worth checking the crankshaft position sensor as it is nearby.

Good call
You were spot on gpl1968. I just got home from offshore so set to to strip down the offending parts. The dizzy cap wasn't too bad (but changed it and the rotor arm anyway) but the crank position sensor wire was in a terrible condition with no insulation left and the sheath worn away in places. I guess the dunking from the coolant was the final straw.
Once again shows the value of the forum, this obviously saved me a lot of grief so thanks again. Best Regards, Ian |
