2002 s40 t4
Hi everyone, i have just got myself a T4, I used to have a 99 S40 T4 and have missed it ever since I sold it.
My current T4 is a 2002 and a bit of a project. Needs a bit of work but when its up and running i was thinking of a remap to maybe make it a little livelier! Has anyone got any recommendations as to where to go? Also thinking of an exhaust upgrade but not overly noisy, any thoughts? Thanks |

Mines got a powerflow stainless system that was already on it when I bought it, decatted at present but I will be fitting a high flow item soon in the interests of being legal, it came with a k and n cone filter and cold air feed as well, mine has also had the wastegate actuator adjusted to give 2 psi of extra boost (14 is standard I'm at 16) and it goes like an absolute missile

Sounds good, I'll have to look at the powerflow exhausts.
Thanks |

A lot of older T4's have already been modded in some way, so to avoid any confusion it's often a good move to get it inspected by a good Indy MOT inspector so there is no possibility of a dispute over what was or was not modded by a new owner. If you are unlucky enough to get involved in a serious insurance claiim, most insurance companies will conduct some type of investigation both of the car itself and social media in an attempt to find a way of dodging the claim on the grounds that the car was not correctly described in the application, or involved gross negligence. The cheaper net based companies are real bad in that respect and will even get the ECU error codes read, as they also log MAP changes and when they were done. For some reason, fitting non approved suspension lowering kits is a real hot topic with insurance investigators, as some of the ones listed in Fleabay are out of limits in ground or wheel arch limits.

As for cone filters etc, to be fair just stick with the box filter, there really isn't any point in spending £50 plus on something that will give very little gains unless you want noise. Mine has the standard filter in it, stage 2 remap and turbo back exhaust with a race cat. If you are going to go down the remap route, get the other mods sorted first so it can be remapped to take into account said mods. I also wouldn't go about screwing with the wastegate unless you know what you are doing as too high a boost and the potential for bent rods etc is higher. And as skyship mentioned, check with your insurer as to premiums if you do mod it and buy ANTZ exhaust system.

I've own(ed) many modified cars and as long as the mods are safe, fitted correctly and everything is delcared to your insurance you will have no problems. Some insurers just go "nope" when you mention mods and those arent the ones for you. You need a proper specialist insurer like Adrian Flux or A Plan Thatcham branch who will know what you're on about, know the mods you are on about and properly look after you. If you don't declare your mods then that's your fault. If you declare them then there's no reason to have your insurance void or any difficulties with them. My experience. Plenty of modified cars and I have absolutely no trouble insuring my Volvo 240 with a T5 engine conversion that has tripled the cars original power. Just use a decent insurer specialising in modified cars, be honest and open and you'll be fine. Also.....buy my exhaust. Last edited by Antz; Apr 11th, 2018 at 16:50. |

I agree with trying other companies. I did with Adrian Flux and all mods sorted.
