Default "Book time for service" But why?

I'm half way through my service year, and well within the mileage since the last

So any ideas as to why the dashboard is telling me to "Book time for service"?

Maybe they forgot to reset the light last time?

That was my initial thought. But then why has it only appeared 6 months and 4,000 miles down the line?

I had the same issue with a car around the same mileage. One garage insulted me and suggested my driving was harsh, another said the oil was thin.

It transpired the service indication message had been set at 8888 instead of 0000 at the factory. (hence service required at less than 4k)

Regards

I suspect the book interval is more conservative than the service light! But I'm guessing...
