I’ve opened a right of can of interference worms here!!
Thanks for the thoughts and info, all. Perhaps I should have asked whether the B200E is an interference engine or not...totally stock, no head skimming/porting/trick valves etc. I’m thinking that a high compression lump with a high lift cam would be an interference engine, but please prove me wrong!

Good luck with your search for a car, a lot of problem cars out there and many with expensive or near impossible to fix issues. Jon. n.b welcome to come and look at my 2 x 744s but you're too far away. Last edited by Prufrock; Jul 12th, 2018 at 09:18. Reason: n.b |

How often do cambelts fail "in general experience", providing they are replaced at the recommended interval and correctly tensioned including re-tensioning after the recommended settling in mileage?
And how many of those failures incur damage due to interference? I have taken the view re redblocks not to worry on the interference issue, just make sure the cambelt is changed and tensioned. Cushti. And one can't guard against absolutely everything. In general experience, that is a lovely can of worms dangling from a piece of string. . |

My 940 had a B230FK and pretty sure that was non-interference (as is the B230FT). My current 960 with a B6254FS is definitely an interference engine (Whiteblock). Cheers

Stop being so high and mighty - your arrogance stinks.
If you know the answer to the OP’s question, then give it. If you don’t, don’t pretend as if you do. Also, I’m still trying to find out who the previous register keeper for the 700/900 series was. I’ve tried searching the forum and nothing comes up. Cheers PS: if you want to refer to me directly, call me Jonny as that’s my name after all.

Just adding my tuppence-ha'penny-worth to this.
My B200E timing belt snapped, and I've got two bent exhaust valves. The head was skimmed when I renewed the head gasket some years ago (not warped, but some light pitting), but is otherwise standard. Luckily, I was off the power when it snapped, and I think I've got off very lightly considering! Of course, if I'd checked to see if it was due a new belt (it was overdue) and had it renewed, I wouldn't have any bent valves... sigh!

Had a 740 with B200E in recently with snapped cam belt. No compression with new belt. Pulled the head to find 4 bent exhaust valves
