Hi there, just seen this thread, and I have a 1995 (facelift) 460 Turbo, and am quite interested in a front valence, (not a whole bodykit) but of course I am too a pauper student!! And so will have to see if the money's there first.

Did I hear correctly that I'd have to modify my existing bumper to fit this one on? As I don't want to damage any part of the original car. Also, mine is metallic green, would I have to get it painted too? Or do they come already painted in what you request for?

Regards,

Crispin

Howdy! Student...turbo...damn you :P

Yes, the kit is for a pre-facelift car, and some modification is needed to make it fit a post-facelift model. I have no idea what is involved exactly, but it looks like everyone else involved has a post-facelift car, so you're all in the same boat. I suspect that it is no more fundamental than the alterations needed to make a generic kit fit a Saxo...almost no bodykits literally bolt straight on.

This 'valance' (unlike the 300 series one) is (as I understand it) a replacement for your existing bumper, so you don't alter this at all - it's the 'new' section that you have to chop (or fill) a bit. If you do need to hack the existing bumper, you could always remove the original, and modify one from a scrap car.

It'll be finished in bare fibreglass, and *possibly* primer...but that's one for Dave to answer. I've still not had chance to speak to him.

cheers

James

Hi, yeah, problem is, running it at my age has taken pretty much the whole loan, and most of my grant, and now I'm a good grand over-drawn due to fuel costs!! But I tell, it's worth it!! But yeah, that makes it a problem if I need to spend more money on new bumpers and things, and I've heard paint jobs are really pricey, and I don't think I'd want to spend over £100 on a valence, then spray paint it with a dodgy can from Halfords!!

Like the sound of a 340 front valence though, as I have a 340 too, and that'd look nice with a subtle extension on the front.

Will stay in touch,

Crispin

Well let's get some pricing info from Dave first. You can do a surprisingly good job with rattle-cans, so I wouldn't rule those out - plus you can always get it painted 'properly' later. Volvo's own spray cans are excellent, and cost about £12 for a set (colour and lacquer) in metallic colours. With care I think you'd get the valance done with two can sets. A Halfords can would be a lot cheaper - practise (and smoothing the colour out once sprayed...) is the key! Alternatively a bodyshop shouldn't charge more than £50 to spray it for you - possibly a lot less. I think Dave might be able to help out there.

There is a group buy on 300 series valances happening as we speak...£80 a pop. Post in here for more info...

Hi Foggy...

I would love a front valance for my 440, but i give up-there is never enough interest! Just a quick question-what's happened to Matt? I saw his Superchipped ECU on eBay, as he's claiming he doesn't have the car anymore...whats the deal??

Crispy-d: The only mod you need to make to your facelifted model is the front bumper. You will need a front bumper from a 1990 model (F, G or H reg would do). Take off your existing bumper and pop the old style one on. The valance then attaches to the old front bumper. As far as i'm aware, no cutting or choppin etc-the wires for the foglights may need extending, but thats about it.

Well, thats me and Colin up for one anyway...

Have faith Dan...it WILL happen!

Matt is still about, and it's Matt who is masterminding this...honest! Well...he's buying the donor car anyway. He does still have the car...but not the B18U engine anymore...
(...chuckles to self...)

cheers

Nothing too wild....but pretty cool...hope you don't mind be giving away your secrets Matt...
1.8 16v from a Renault 19, but stroked to 2.0, and running Megasquirt EMS.

The donor kit is still (in theory) coming from that blue 440 that was on eBay ages ago in Wales. It's got no MOT or Tax, and we're all too young to tow it (and they check your license at the hire places...damn them!). It looks like it'll need trailering - at £200 or so - unless we can find someone to tow it, or we spend the £££ getting it roadworthy. We think it's worth having the whole car, as there are a few other toys on it (which would most likely be for sale in due course), and the owner isn't keen on splitting it - and the price of the kit alone would reflect that.

I was at the National last year, and I will be this year. I also turn up to the Crooked Billet once in a while. The 360 should have the R-Sport engine tuning kit fitted by then, so I can stand a chance of keeping up with people...

I can't speak for Matt, as he's a very long way away!

cheers

James

Wouldn't mind going to a few rallies this year-i'm not with my girlfriend now, so conversation should be alot more relaxing and easy....;-)

Crikey-that 440 from Wales...that was a long time ago-and the owner is still okay about keeping hold of it? This is the one i saw on eBay...:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WDVW

The car, cosmetically looks ok. I did email the seller about possibly selling the kit on, but they have not bothered to reply. It's a shame 'cos i could just see it going to some muppet who will screw it into the ground and just leave to be squished in some horrible, cold scrapyard. Could go to such a nice loving group of Volvo owners!

Matt's conversion sounds ok-a 2.0 16v-that must surprise a few people at the traffic lights! Has it been a difficult job for him and (i presume) Dave? I heard the engines are pretty much a straight swap.

Anyway, i'm yapping!

Ah yes, that one's been on before. Get the address, then go round with a screwdriver...

Yeah, same block I think, so it more or less bolts straight in. He could barely put the power down off the line with the 1.8 8v, so this must be nuts! I think he did it himself....no Dave input on that one.

Yeah - the owner has had other things on his mind, and its stored at his folks place, so no worries there. He obviously wants it gone, but appriciates the difficulties, and wants it to go to a good home.

Do you mean you'll not be with her at the meets....or you've split up? You make that sound like a good thing!!

The Turbobricks guys will be heading for Santa Pod on the 2nd April...then partying...if you're up for it? I could use something to race which I stand a chance against.

cheers

James
