Default T8 Running In

For those of you who already have your T8s, what was the running in procedure?

I'll answer my own question...well it's apparently none according to Volvo at handover this morning. "Drive it like you stole it"...Mmmmm...doesn't seem right, but I will be gentle when cold and give it increasing "beans" through a range of driving and miles to bed in the pistons and seals.

They say modern engines don't need to be run in but I'd be gentle for the first few hundred miles.

However, the brakes should definitely be given the opportunity to bed in. Typically that'll take a couple of hundred miles during which time try to avoid any hard braking.

Volvo run the engine flat out for half an hour on the bench before it is put in the car. This mates the pistons to the bores and produces the optimum power and longevity from the engine. It's how race engines are run in. Nothing you do will hurt the engine but the other component still need to be run in of course, like the brake pads and disks.

I'm aware of the process, but never thought for a moment Volvo did that. That's really intersting, thanks. Is that all Volvo engines or just this one?

Engine doesn't feel tight at all, and silly speeds are quite easily attained without trying. It's not very refined though, and you can tell it's only

Sorry...you can tell it's only 4 cylinders. The only time it feels "right" and not hunting is in power mode...the electric and ICE working together give it quite a shove, but front end is scrabbling for grip with lots of torque steer. I imagine I'm going to go through front tyres quickly!

As you said race engines often get the bench treatment, but until recently even high performance M and RS engines still needed running in...and even my GT3s have needed quite prescriptive running in.

I'm impressed with the overall package, but it drinks fuel if not in hybrid or pure EV mode, and a long run will be painful having done one this weekend. I do like the fuel filler nozzle hole. Is it same on diesel?
