A seized caliper is probably the most common cause.

If disks and calipers etc are all ok, check the condition of the lower wishbone bushes esp the larger rear one ... can cause pulling and vibration if worn.

My suggestion

Try :

a) Find a quiet road and do 3 to 4 hard stops from appx 30 mph, in between those do a hard stop from a moderate speed in reverse.

Any improvement?

Yes - was likely a sticking caliper and/or glazed disc

No - Try this :

Find a quiet road and then do 3 to 4 hard stops from 60 mph (but not so hard that the ABS kicks in). Wait 5 mins. Both the front wheels should be warm - do they feel approximately the same temperature (don't touch the brake discs)?

Yes - suspect front wishbone bushes (if replacement needed, do both and use only genuine Volvo parts). You might be able to verify this if the steering veers the other way during hard acceleration.

No - strip/clean brake calipers and check discs for rust, glazing and even pad wear
