Steering binding/tight
Hi All, wonder if someone can help.
Steering on my 940 is tight at certain points when turning the wheel, almost like something is binding. No untoward noises, power steering fluid is topped up and PS is working. Sprayed WD40 on the steering UJs in the engine bay and that did help slightly and made it better to drive but its still there. It seems to come on relatively quickly - well during a period where the car wasn't driven much. What sort of stuff do I need to check?

It will be the UJ's.
Jack the front up and turn steering side to side and keep spraying with WD40 type stuff and the use something like chain lube and just keep working it in |

Hi
This will be one of the UJs in the steering shaft in the engine bay, I replaced the lower UJ on V90 about a year ago with the same symptoms, if you remove it and work the joint you will feel a tight spot, not really worth lubricating as it could then rattle once freed off or even break. |

Yes and no.
Check your valve on the pump. Take it out and clean. That's what mine was. Spring in first. Then plunger thing then the threaded part. And I got nice uj if you need it. I had much fun with this. Valve was very noisy.

UPDATE - I jacked up the front and flushed the UJ's out with some WD40 then put loads of bike lube in them and worked them around as much as I could.
I then removed the camber mod I did (bruised and cut fingers now!), I have noticed the front camber was a bit too much as I did the mod and lowered the car 40mm, the steering was quite heavy. Test drive - steering much lighter and not binding much at all now. I'm going to drive it a bit and see what its like, maybe repeat the lubrication again another time and see what happens. Hopefully sorted now.
