Derek do you happen to know if it's a true tilt sensor or if it's more of a shock sensor? If it's a tilt sensor then parking sideways on a hill could trigger it, if it's more of a shock sensor it will sense the sudden movement of the jack, more inertia than shock sensing but there are true shock sensors that detect the vibration as a tight wheel nut is slackened for example or the breaking of glass or a similar impact type noise.

Default Catalytic converter stealers

Dave,
I am told it is a true tilt sensor designed to stop anyone lifting the side of the car to steal wheels there is also an ultrasound sensor and a glass breakage sensor! Apparently it triggers if on a ferry and in rough seas when I am advised not to switch on the alarm (lock door with key). I have not yet had a problem parking on a hill so wouldn't know if that could trigger the sensor.

Thanks Derek, was merely idle curiosity on my part.

Perhaps a metal guard could be fabricated and fitted to stop access to the CAT. I can’t remember if there are any spare studs or captive nuts in the chassis to allow this. It’d definitely slow them down if they were stupid enough to try it.

I’ve got a 200 cell sports CAT fitted to mine, not sure what the catalyst is in it. I know older cars are targeted due to the use of precious metals but I seem to remember there being a ceramic CAT that uses something different or very small amounts of precious metals.

Quite a few available, mainly for Toyota Auris/Prius models and Honda Jazz with a couple of others thrown in. None for Volvos of any description though.
