Each to their own George and to be fair, the Estoura looks a lot better in the metal than in a photo. The SD1s that were converted to estate format aren't particularly pretty anymore but then back in the mid 70s, few if any estates were pretty, just functional.

As old Spike used to say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Get it out with Optrex!

This very smart 1993 Volvo 240 Torslanda Estate with only two owners (the current one since 2004) and 125,000 miles costs £1951:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-240...rdt=true&rt=nc

... this 1993 Volvo Torslanda Estate 240 with 197,000 miles and 3 owners costs £8750:

... a bit hard to follow, isn't it?

The cheap one that's just finished has scruffy wheels, potential sill problems, broken/missing bits of trim, a dent in the O/S/R flank and generally looks used and abused - overall condition suggests a higher mileage realistically.
The expensive one has none of these apparent problems although there may be others unseen by photos. However is the lack of those cosmetic problems really worth £7k? Probably not but it will take a lot of TLC to bring the cheaper one up to a similar cosmetic standard.

One has ESSENTIAL 'barn' type photos and a dealer sticker on the rear window. This, combined with the obligatory surf board picture signifies the car is to be sold by a particular type of dealer to a particular type of customer, one who probably has a man bun, works in advertising or IT, and rides a fixed gear racing bike to work after partaking of a healthy quinoa and almond with honey and spinach smoothie and a moccachoccanuttieveganlatte for breakfast. The other is an old volvo you or I would buy.

Cynical - but absolutely correct!

I'd buy the cheap one for under 2 grand and make getting it into good shape a bit of a hobby - oh, that is what I do with the RB already!

:-)

... I know Dave - my Aldi ad was tongue-in-cheek.

I'm always dubious when people cover up the number plates when cars are for sale - they might claim it is so the plate doesn't get cloned (what, by a person with a similar 27 year old Volvo estate?) - but I suspect it is so buyers can't check up on the MoT history via the very good government web site easily (and hence check the mileage).

:-)

Partly so buyers can't check the MoT history but i suspect more because he lives in an area that Jeremy Kyle used to visit with a net and doesn't want his neighbours getting wind of him making a few quid as they'll "bubble him to the social".

Either that or he's upset a few of them and they're likely to come round with keys for the bodywork, bricks for the windows and so on.

Maybe all of the above!

Here's one for you - check the MOT history on that. Clocked at least three times.

Convenient zero reputation on the seller as well.

Something very familiar about the format of the ad and the address/area, reminds me very much of a 740 Turbo estate that Phil (All hailKing Volvo) put a deposit on and when he got there found it was an absolute scrapper that wouldn't even run on all 4 cylinders!

Got his deposit back eventually but lost out on his train fares etc from Dorset to the west midlands.

Apparently one of these traders that keeps moving, changing ebay screen names - been investigated umpteen times by Trading Standards - you get the idea.

Also i notice they haven't put decent sized photos on the listing so no enlargement possible and it looks like there are plenty of scuffs, broken trim etc that are conveiently hidden by that. Useful having a 22" monitor instead of a phone screen!

As an aside, i'm very dubious of that GM V6 in transverse installations, it was good in the original set up in the Omegas etc but when they turned it round it seemed to develop weak head gaskets, especially on the rear bank - poorer cooling i suspect!
