[QUOTE=green van man;2716851]I run a bit of 2 stroke oil in the diesel tank.
Reason I do so is the lack of sulpher in diesel these days, this sulphur used to lubricate the system, now low sulphur diesel doesnot .

Mate of mine had a BMW 5 series, high pressure pump, tank pump 4 injectors all had to be renewed along with flushing the pipes and cleaning the tank as the high pressure pump shed particles of itself throughout the system as it wore away. His was not an isolated case according to his research and his pump when sent to a reputal reconditioned was deemed scrap it was so badly worn, on an 80k mile car.

BMW use Bocsh pumps, same as volvo.

Paul.[/QUOTE

I had a 2002 ford mondeo that did the same Bought the car for £4K, ford stealership wanted £4.5k to fix, Diesle Pump 4 injectors and a flush. It had only done 55k miles completely gutted managed to get a back street garage to do it for £2K still had to go to ford to get the injectors coded.

Surely this sort of pump wear is most likely due to petrol having been mistakenly put into the fuel tank at some point?

My last car was a 2005 Honda Accord with Bosch fuel injection (specifically the generation using the CP3 pump producing 1600 bar) and I took the car from 82k miles right up to 190k miles without any pump or injector problems. But luckily I never cross-fuelled it...

There is "Bosch" and there is BOSCH going right back to the 1970's ... even wiper blades are made in 3 different qualities ..
It may explain why volvo generally don't have this pump problem

........but they don't.

For example, I've just been on the Daily Mail website (lunchtime comic) and seen an advert for a Voltex Powwer Saving Plug which will slash electricity bills by up to 90%. It's utter bollurks of course, you won't even get 1%.

Tempted by this? :

https://getvoltex.com/?gclid=EAIaIQo...SAAEgLhXPD_BwE

See this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yA5G7kR_xa8

It's done very cleverly through linked sites so the ridiculous claims aren't shown on the main site.

Please take it from a former electrical engineer - there is no device that will fit in a socket in your house that will have any (saving) impact on your bill... ever...

Paul.
I think rather than a crappy pump its related to a much harder life cycle due to injector deposits increasing the pressure in the system and making the pump work much harder. Injector deposits have always been a thing, but only became an issue when nozzles became much smaller and pressures increased. It's true that sulfur is great for lubricating the system, it does not stop those deposits however. The addition of sulfur from the two stroke oil also causes your catalytic converter to fail. That is a lot more expensive than the injector deposits.
