Default Warning light madness - Reduced Engine Performance

After driving home last I tried to start the car and it turned over for longer than usual and didn't sound too happy. On the dash there was a message 'Reduced Engine Performance' warning.

I turned off the car and started it again and it started easily and the message had gone.

However, now the Airbag Warning light shows for a few seconds and the car 'dings' six times before the light goes off.

I started the car a couple more times and once the engine and oil warning lights came on briefly and then went out after a while.

The oil level is correct. Now there are no warning light except for the airbag warning light showing for a few seconds and the six audible 'dings' after which it goes off.

I have tried googling the six dings and the 'Reduced Engine Performance' warning but can't find anything that describes either issue happening intermittently (or in this case just once).

Are these two behaviours related? Anything to check? Thanks

Airbag warning and 6 dings - is this anything to do with passenger air bag being disabled?

Cheers

Hi Dave

I haven’t disabled the airbag. Seems odd this happened after that rogue Reduced Engine Performance error.

Car has been running as normal today

Are you able to check for stored diagnostic trouble codes?

Just while there, make sure the timing belt is in good condition - not related to the srs but may be related to a slow start
Drive as usual then park and undo a battery cable - may want not to lock the trunk for easier access. Measure the voltage after 2h
Some XC90 had a recall for the harness of top of the CEM (water ingress)

My 66 reg S60 D2, has showing error message of ‘reduced engine performance’ .
I am a careful driver & not done anything unusual. In spite of having error message, I didn’t notice any changes in the performance or noise. Shall I carry on driving or shall I take to the garage to be checked?

You might get more/better responses if you post in the S60 section of the forum.

This section is for XC90 models

Cheers
