I would suggest you go for 1.0 bar as a noticeable but safe boost increase. The factory setting is about 0.6 bar (8psi) and 1 bar is about 15psi.

Hope that helps,

Phil :-)

What exactly is a Bleeder Valve, and where in the system does it fit?

I understand the function of a Dump valve, but I dont think this is what you are refering to.

By the way, which is the best Dump Valve to go for? Sinc I fitted the K&N 57i, I can hear just how slow to react the Recirculating Dump Valve is!!

Hi Nigel,

The bleed valve goes in the servo line to the recirc valve. It bleeds off some of the pressure that would normally open the wastegate. You can use it to raise the boost pressure by delaying the opening of the wastegate.

You need to be careful not to overdo it - as overboost is a problem. You should aim for a "creep and try" approach when you set it up, or use a proper boost guage and go for about 1.0bar which is kinda a safe maximum.

With regard to a dump valve - they generally make more noise, but the performance improvements are not immense. In fact, because you dump already compressed & intercooled air to the atmosphere, rather than back into the system, some people would argue that you are losing not gaining, because the turbo has to build it all up again from scratch.

From personal experience, my advice would be to speak to Don Norchi at Kalmar - he has both Bleed Valves and Dump Valves in stock and will give you a honest opinion on both. I personally chose to use the bleed valve to improve the performance of the re-circ valve, and not fit a dump valve.

Hope that helps,

Phil :-)
