Default Has car insurance gone mad?

Gents,

I'm 34.
Had a license for 16 yrs.
3 years no claims.
No convictions and points etc.
Live in a flat with a private gated car park.

Last year I called Footman James for a quote on a manual saloon 850 T-5R (modified) which I was considering buying. I received a surprising quote of £220 per annum. Taking into account that I was paying £650 for my 1.6 Ford Focus I was happy with that.
I didn't end up buying the T-5R in the end and purchased my present day 850R. However as it wasn't 20 yrs old (last year) I didn't qualify with Footman James. I called Footman on Friday as it's time for a renewal and my baby is 20 years old...and I got a quote for £450!

What's happened in a year?

Any other companies who I should try for sub £300 insurance? (Fully comp).

Thanks.

Yes, you will get more responses elsewhere.
I was with FJ for a long time with a classic car and a year ago the premium doubled. They wouldnt change it or explan so I switched to Peter James.
FJ were bought by someone (AON?) a couple of years ago which may have something to do with it !

We all have to shop around, often every year

Hi,
Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.
Regards,
Dan.

I've no idea what's happened mate! I have had classic insurance for about four years and my NCB has expired - which I think is a joke by the way. I am 49 years old with one at-fault claim approximately 16 years ago and an expired SP30 6 years ago and I think +£500/year for my Merc 320 cdi is a joke. Ok, like my grandad I can remember paying tuppence for everything but for goodness sake this is taking the proverbial!
