Default Wheel bearing

Hi all

I’ve got a wheel bearing starting to go, which after 217000 miles not to bad, is there an easy way identifying which one is going.

I have jacked it up and checked each wheel and they feel ok the only thing I can get it to do is, it goes quieter when you turn left and louder when going right, so I’m thinking it’s the drivers side.

I’m going away in it in 2 weeks which is typical so hoping to get it sorted.

Thank you

Daniel

I had my son sit in various positions in the car to see where it is loudest.
I couldn't tell from the driver's seat.

You've got it the wrong way around. If your turning left and its quieter that means your taking the weight off the bad side which is the passengers and when turning right your putting pressure on the passenger side which would be the bad side and making it louder.

Why not replace both? At that mileage the O K one will not be far behind!

Peace of mind for the future.

Thanks both for the replies glad I checked with you. I’m going out in it to see if I can pin point it but like you say I’m contemplating changing all four.

But got to change all engine mounts too as they have gone so hoping just to change one so I know it’s safe to go away in.

Cheers again

Daniel

Only thing I would add is don't fit a cheap one.

I've replaced both of my rear bearings in the five years I've had the car and have used SKF both times. No issues.

Just been out in it and called into the garage I use they are confident it’s the drivers side front. Which on the way over I could feel it through the pedals so it’s booked in for Monday.

Just not going to use it much as it seems to be getting worse really quickly.

I did mention about fitting an skf one or Volvo one which ever is easier to get, also having an aux belt fitted at the same time as it’s been 5 years since it was last done with the tensioner and alternator pulley.

Thanks again for the replies

Daniel

Jack up each corner and spin the wheel whilst holding the coil spring. Rough bearings can identified this way.
