Cant beat an 850
Before anyone comments that this message should be in the 800 section, Im trying to attract other model owners to the 850. Having just bought a 1995 model myself, I have to say what a great car. I know in terms of ownership Ive only had the thing a few days, but it knocks the socks off any other Volvo Ive had, including 240, 480 and even 960. I can now look at BMW's and feel superior!
Cheers Tim |

RE: Cant beat an 850
I have to agree.Despite its faults(and they can be numerous)my T5 has not only rekindled my enthusiasm for driving but also for getting my hands dirty when things need doing.I have to say that in that respect the confidence to undertake some jobs (which a few years ago I wouldn't have dreamed of doing) has been raised by having this forum to fall back on when necessary.

RE: Cant beat an 850
Absolutely
I havent tried the 960 or V90 so can't comment.I can only judge what I've driven and having owned 240's (saloons and estates) 340's 740's and 760 turbo (saloons and estates)I can safely say that my T5 is the best all round performer I have had the pleasure of so far.But Hey! I hope to have a few years and a few cars to go yet so who knows I may yet get to prefer Ferrari's or Skoda's who knows:+ |

RE: Cant beat an 850
I'm very happy with my 850 (better if it had the stopping power of the 480), but i'm dreading the day i want to replace it. I'm an anti-Ford person but love Volvo, so haven't got a clue what (eventually) i'll replace the 850 with.

Hi All,
I do hope that people did not think that I was trying to mock or knock the 850s. These vehicles hav obvious performance, safety, comfort and style attributes that appeal to their owners. These cars are, after all, Volvos. It's just that they are not for me in the same way that others from the Volvo stable do not appeal to me. Happy motoring. |

I'm with migrator on this one: good though the 850 is, we now run a 940se turbo estate and a 960 3.0cd 24valve both of which I prefer any day.
Cheers everyone |

Sorry Tim,
the 850 is way too big for me. I'am afraid i'll stick to my Cheese Wedge. If all Cheese Wedges suddenly disappear from the face of the earth it's Mazda's RX-8 which features as the # 1 on my shortlist :) levensnevel a smile every mile |

I'm with you on that one mate! What a car! I test drove an example of the first production car with a ####el engine, the remarkable NSU Ro80 and marvelled at it's effortless performance and very relaxed driving ability. If I could have afforded one I would have bought it on the spot. But that was in 1969. Mazda took on the ####el and showed what it could really do. All the best, Peter |

Singing off the same hymn sheet there...
I've been looking for a car to replace my 850R saloon and cannot find one that combines room, speed, looks and interior appointments regardless of budget - and sadly that includes the new S60R, which fails on the space category. Have to be a V70R with the US Sport kit and a custom paint job, I think. (That's when rich uncle Harry in Australia leaves me some money, of course...) |
