I have software version: 0C72 and Map version: V 30.13.02

I'm guessing it isn't up to date, but can anyone tell from that whether I can just update via usb myself, or do I need a dealer update first?

If you have a 'diagram' of a globe on the button beneath the 'My Car' button you can update directly via usb. If not, you will need discs or a software download to be able to update it yourself.

Nope, sadly I haven't got that button Any idea of a rough cost of discs or software download?

Most dealers doe the software for £99.00 then you can DIY the updates, though I believe the updates are few and far between

To clarify if you don't have the Globe icon (and have the "NAV" button instead - pre 2013), once you've had the software update you can also update via USB. I paid £90 for the update and it takes 45 minutes.

Map updates seem to be every two years, the latest being released in April this year.

Thanks, as yet I've not been anywhere it hasn't known or been incorrect, will wait and see if I go for it down the line.

So far, they have been every 6 months.

Map updates are different for Sensus 2010 and Sensus 2013.

Six month intervals have been for those of us who have the globe on the dash below My Car button.

Those who have paid for software to be able to update their own maps on the previous generation nav just had a new update in April but previous update for them was early 2016.

Finally, after much toing and froing, got my MY2012 Sensus system updated.

Map downloaded onto USB and it'll take a while to update the car as I'm only doing short runs at the moment.

Question for those that have had it done: When I restart the car the software appears to be updating; however I get the message
'Infotainment functionality limited.
Remaining: 3h 5min

/status bar/

Close with EXIT'

Remaining suggests it should be counting down but hey, this is Volvo, - does it countdown or is it a fixed message until the update is done?

It does count down but rather intermittently. Mine seems to speed up towards the end.
