Default Aeriel amplifier

My 2005 2.4 V70 doesn't have any FM reception, although the AM reception isn't too bad.

It was suggested by a member that I may need a new aerial amplifier, can anyone tell me just where it is located please?

That said, my local in car entertainment shop pulled the radio head out and plugged in a screen mounted FM aerial and couldn't get any reception.

I have bought this part (apparently tested) from a well known online auction site for £8.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

David

'fraid you'll have to be a little more specific.

Canis: with all respect, but this guy simply may not even know what yure asking for.

David:
We will need to know a bit more to be able to help you.
First: what model head unit is it? Its written usually just under volume knob- for example HU803
That red part from eScrap: is there any sticker on it? Any number on sticker?
Third- I would assume that if it didn't work with third party aerial- the fault lies within the head unit?

Its always worth posting in the section of the forum for a particular vehicle as that is were the more technical topics are better answered.

There are different aerials in your car: one is a metal plate inside rear bumper which has an amp in the right rear of the boot & the other is a series of elements in the side windows of the luggage compartment. The amp shown in the picture is for one of those. If you decide to replace it, it fits under the plastic trim in the roof above one of the windows but you need to very careful not to damage the connections at the top of the window as these form part of the alarm system & can result in 'alarm service required' message.

A common problem is that the rear bumper is removed but then the wiring is not reconnected to the aerial amplifier. That's worth a check. Have you got the original head unit or aftermarket? If the former, you need to be wary of switching the ignition on with the climate control panel disconnected as this will generate an air bag warning which could be a problem at MOT time. You're average bloke in the car stereo place is unlikely to be aware of this so go easy otherwise it end up a costly exercise to get the fault codes reset by a main dealer.
