Anyone know this car...?
So, about a year after selling his C30 in favour of a motorbike, my son has decided it's time he had a car for winter commuting and socialising.
Following a few weeks of searching we happened across this car for sale not too far away. I know that it's a long shot, but just wondering if anyone on here is familiar with the car and can advise on its history at all? I'd always prefer to buy from someone I know, so if it's an ex-forum car that would be nice - it looks tidy in the photos, but we all know what a coat of polish can do to a car! Had it checked on Vida and looks like it missed a service in 2011, then had its last one in 2016, albeit the 'missing' services could have been carried out outside of the dealer network. I know that we'll need to check for cam belt and EGR replacement, as well as wear on the front arms, any other issues anyone would suggest looking out for? Thanks in advance. |

Haha, indeed - to be fair he was quite open to 2.0L petrol or diesel, unfortunately we haven't found anything suitable in petrol.

If he's open to it, it might be worth holding out for. Seems to have far less issues than the 2.0D, plus more power and no turbo to worry about going wrong.

As said, avoid the 2.0D, it's not a Volvo engine, get a D2, D3, D4 or D5 if you need a diesel.
Failing that a petrol will do you much better

DONT buy the 2.0D. It's just not worth the hassle. It's not even that economical either.
I ran a 2.0D for nearly 3 years and I ended up developing "Limp Home anxiety", which I define as a fear of putting your foot down, incase the car goes into Limp Home mode at a bad time. You will be very happy with the 2.0 Petrol. It's a Mazda engine with 145bhp. My housemate has a 2.0 Petrol C30 and it's much faster than the 2.0d after 60mph. Also, these 2.0 engines have a suprisingly nice stock exhaust note. You'd think this was an aftermarket exhaust, but it's completely stock:

Note, deposit taken, is that you ?
These engines always split opinion. Like any, a lot depends on the maintenance done but for me they are as sound as any other. At 102k it's getting to the point of things wearing out though, but only serviceable parts. Seems a little pricey
