The advantage of the Volvo beyond comfort safety and tech is best in class depreciation, so it will be worth more when it comes to sell it on, the Kia however will depreciate like a stone so it might make it financially cheaper to own the Volvo if your swapping at end of warranty. You can see it factored in the lease deals:
Kia £520 per month -(https://leasing.com/main-dealers/par...nto/341058587/) Volvo XC60)£343 per month - (https://leasing.com/main-dealers/lip...c60/339230489/) So the Volvo is nearly £200 cheaper per month on the same term with the same deposit for both.

Depreciation is by far biggest cost item in ownership. General rule of thumb cars loose half their value every 3 years, some bit more, some bit less...
So £40k new car = £20k at 3 years, £10k at 6 years. Between years 3 and 6 you will spend more on maintenance than in years 1 to 3 it it's unlikely to be £10k over and above routine servicing and consumables that all cars will cost. Maintenance costs can be reduced by finding a good indipendent specialist. The core decision is do you WANT a new car every 3 years, old want/need question... |

Firstly i can afford to buy outright i wont be leasing.
The volvo im interested in is dearer than the kia. The XC60 im interested in is a monterum , T6 petrol and once i added everything came to just over 40k. The sorento was the KX2 auto and came to 37ishk. If i did a pcp deal which im not as i could afford to buy outright with a 13500 deposit the volvo was £343 a month and kia £295 a month. So kia came cheaper even to buy outright. |

If your buying another car after 3-5 years then depreciation matters a lot. Especially if you have the money to buy it outright. I have attached the examples from Kia and Volvo to explain my point. The key point - look at the future value the pcp examples tell you a lot about the future value of the vehicle - that is what the finance companies believe is the value of the car. After 37 months the kia has cost £23,330 - its worth noting that Kia also offer a £1000 discount on the new car and a £2,500 deposit contribution included in the illustration below) The Volvo has cost £20,406 - Volvo offers a £1,000 deposit contribution also included in the illustration. Also the FCA states that new assist should remain atleast 35% of the original value - this means the kia cannot be taken new beyond 37 months, but the volvo can be had with longer terms - for example after 48 months of ownership the volvo is still worth more than the kia is at 37 months. Now if you join the Volvo Owners club - you don’t actually have to own a Volvo to join - after 3 or 6 months you will qualify for the affinity discount - that will give you £4,200 saving on the XC60 (metallic paint is free for members) it also includes the finance at 0% apr which would make the Volvo much more appealing in financial terms. here is the link: https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/affinity.shtml

We have two greyhounds in the back of our XC90 but are waiting for delivery of an XC60 which is still big enough. Make sure that you get the metal load guard for the dog.
