Default 2002 V50 repeated low beam failure

Morning all. Over Christmas both low beam bulbs failed simultaneously on our V50. I replaced them with Phillips bulbs and all was fine, now less than 3 weeks later it’s happened again.

At £15 for a pair of bulbs this could get expensive so does anyone know if this is a common thing with an underlying fault that needs sorting too?

Many thanks

You've either got the wrong age in which case you're in the right place, or you've got the wrong model, in which case you're in the wrong place.

If it's the older V40, not V50 you're talking about then the handlamp relays can go faulty, they can be replaced easily enough yourself if you have a soldering iron.

Apologies, it’s a 56 plate V50 (I’ve had the flu all week and am not back to normal yet)

Are the bulbs sitting firmly in their apertures? if they are rattling around they will blow.

Other than this it might be worth check the voltage at the connectors, checking for voltage spikes maybe?

They seem firmly seated. I do find it odd that they both blew at the same moment. They also blew this time as I parked up at home and was stationary and the last time was when I was also parked with the engine ticking over.

I thought about a power spike but can’t imagine how it could happen

Hi
On my V50, when one bulb blows the other goes the next day. Wonder if one goes there is a surge that weakens the other one.

Had 3 sets in 12 years.
