Wink Where is the ETM ?

Hi everyone,

I've just bought a 2001 S60 TS - very pleased with it so far

Can someone tell me whereabouts in the engine bay the ETM is located ?.

Also, when the cambelt and tensioner is replaced is it a good idea to change the waterpump at the same time ( and anything else for that matter ..)

Thanks !

Hi,the etm is located just under the inlet manifold at the front of the engine,it is about 7" by 4" visible size and will usually have a white label on it.There is a section of inlet pipe 3" diameter running to the underside of the etm.Regards the other matter, probably a good idea to change the auxillary belt at the same time, you could change the water pump whilst passing,so to speak, but this is not strictly needed as a routine change unless the car has a lot of miles or the pump has some play in the shaft or evidence of seepage.
Hope this helps,Adam.

Thanks !

It has a white sticker on it which I believe is an original...the car has done 84k miles and at the moment runs like a dream.

But I may take it to a Volvo dealer for the free etm software upgrade and clean as a precaution.

Just had a 96K service on mine which was the one with the cambelt change. Had all the pullies / belts done and, when they were looking at the water pump identified it was showing signs of possible leaks (dried water marks on the housing) so had it done as well. If it goes it's apparently bye bye to your engine.

Hi TJMurphy. How much did all that cost? Was it a dealer?

There was a lot of other stuff done as well (lots of bits on the front suspension, rear anti-roll bar links, a door lock) so you really, really, really don't want to know what my last service cost

From memory, the add-on for the water pump wasn't that much extra labour though - as I'd told Russell to do all the belts and pullies he'd had to get that far into the engine anyway so it was a simple unbolt / bolt on. Which answers the other bit, it wasn't a dealer, it was RT Mechanics in Liphook - well recommended on this forum (and by me).
