I have used F1s on BMWs, driven enthusiastically (E28 M535i and E34 M5). Absolutely superb behaviour and they lasted well. Maybe they don't like the combination of driving and steering on a front-wheel-drive car? Just a thought.

My s60 D5 has brand new Michelin Pilot Premacy tyres all round @ 225/45/17 and they are very good. I get no real tramlining at all. Although to be honest I got used to it from the 200sx as it tramlined really badly due to the size of the wheels/tyres.

I can't compare these tyres to any others as I have only just got the car, but I would definitely put the same tyres on again.

Sorry but that's twaddle. You don't have to drive a "sports car" to get the benefit out of a good tyre like the F1. Shorter braking distances and increased grip are a benefit to any car. Sure, putting something really expensive and track focused on there would be a waste for a daily driver but F1's are hardly that.

Ouch !

Looks like ive touched a few nerves to the few that like to choose a tyre by what the tread looks like . Put those handbags away guys and try the difference for yourselves over excellence and F1's . Id put money on it those handbags would be put down straight away , a better tyre like I say for that type of car , not a sports car. Agreed braking distances etc bla bla bla but do you really think it makes a difference on your trip to work on ever changing road surfaces , may be you could be of help to formular 1 racing teams LOL LOL LOL . Just picked myself off the floor .

Just off to thrash my car down to waitrose to see if I can knock off a second off my time by braking slightly later into that tight hairpin .

I couldn't care less what brand or type of tyre is on my car, the F1's are a very old design now and I'm sure someone will come up with a design to beat them at the same price soon, maybe the Excellence is that tyre?

However given the Excellence is actually more expensive than the F1 on mytyres and blackcircles I can't see why I'd want to fit them over the F1's unless they are shown in a comparitive test to be the better tyre.

Braking distances, especially in the wet, really do vary hugely between tyres (we're talking metres of difference in a stop from 70mph) and that's why I run the F1's. They have been proven time and time again in comparative tests to be the best or among the best for wet handling and braking. What interests me is that's handling as in lateral grip and resistance to aquaplaning which is what keeps you on the road in an emergency.

The fact they have a nice looking tread pattern is just a bonus

Cheers,
John
