S60 BiFuel
Two question but first - Hello Everybody!
1/ my car is a 2004 auto driven fairly sedately but still consuming 22 mpg on gas. Is this normal because the effective tank capacity is at most 9 gallons so the range is less than 200 miles. 2/ I have a problem with the engine cutting out when it switches over to gas first thing in the morning unless the engine is well above idle speed. The problem occurs in both summer and winter - the outside temp only affects the distance the car goes before it attempts the switch over. In practise this means the cross roiads at the bottom of our hill in winter and the exit to my house drive in summer. A clean up of the throttle bodies improved it for a while but not for long. And its a bit dangerous really, to suddenly have the engine fail along with the pas and brake assistance. |

S60 Bifuel Engine Cutout
Sorry to hear. This seems to be common. Mine is a 2003 Bifuel with the same problem ; I have narrowly escaped running into a line of traffic when the engine cut out. Check other threads by entering a search. Bill2 on 24/1/06 suggested asking Volvo dealer to install software download VO30677021 NSI ECM PETROL UPGRADE. I asked for this but found it had already been done to the car. Another suggestion is a service kit from Volvo , consisting of 3 O-rings and a diaphram, costing £16.00, which is for cleaning the LPG channels . I am just about to obtain this, and will post a result.
Your fuel consumption on Gas is exactly the same as mine, which includes a fair bit of town use. Remember you lose about 15% economy when on Gas, so this would be equivalent to getting 26-27 mpg on a 2.4 litre petrol car about town ; this doesn't seem unusual. |

Gas problems
I have a 2002 S60 lpg dual fuel which has done 62,000 miles about 61,000 of which must have been done on gas
It has been perfect up to now and regularly delivers 250 miles on an lpg tank Two annoyances with it It doesnt automatically switch from gas to petrol when the gas is low Recently it has developed a misfire on cylinder 5 if running on gas. The main dealer wants £700 to replace the distributor but I have asked them to use a service kit to clean it which will be £155 I hear the distributors get dirty with oil deposits from the gas |
