Default 285mm to 305mm discs

For the 1st time since getting my S60 I had to do an emergency stop yesterday & to be honest the braking left me a bit frightened with it's performance . This made me do the disc measure & I have found out I have 285mm discs, does anyone know what is required to convert to 305mm & an approx price ? has anyone done this conversion.

You can change the discs to the larger size but need the brackets for the disc callipers. I think I saw some for say on ebay. Search the forum for more infoi. I think this topic has been recently covered.

Thanks, just had a look at the ones on ebay that you mentioned! Are they expensive at £80?? I did a search before posting this topic but didn't really bring anything up.

Very surprised you found the brakes frightening ..i got 285mm too..i ave found Volvo brakes to be some the best around you the EBa system kicking in to help...what kind od speed where you doing when using the emergency brakes?..on the M6 i slammed on the anchors and nearly stood the car on its nose and even after releasing pedal i noticed car was still braking until the point i touched the pedals again..i would get the brakes checked just incase..

About 45-50, A motorbike had jammed it's chain in the fast lane & a Transit braked then swapped into my lane with very little notice they are fine in everyday use.

Every cars brakes (newish cars) should be able to at least stop the car once perfectly from an emergency stop from 70mph to 0.

I would get your brakes checked first.

My S60 D5 has the smaller discs and had no problems and I don`t hang about on the roads. I just wonder if its the type of pads in the car. Could make a difference.

When I do push the S60 hard I find the brakes fade very quickly

Never had the need to perform an Emergency stop yet, but I have done a few ( just to get a feel for it in any new car on how she reacts) and she pulled up fine.

However going back to what I said they seem to fade quickly when used often, brake pedal also become stiff, wonder if the boiling the brake fluid?

I don't know what the size of the dics are but they are the stock original pads and discs - done 48 K now.

The EBA is great though you really feel the additional braking pressure. Did this kick in for you? - depends how fast you hit the brake and how hard after immediately releasing the throttle.

With the Emergency brake assist you would feel the pedal fall to the floor more unlike normal braking, as soon as you remove the pressure it would feel normal again.

Does sound like somethings not right as your not confident with the brakes, and that's one thing we sould all be confident to rely on when the time comes.

If the pedal feels soft all the time, perhaps moisture in the brake fluid - when was it last changed? Could also be air in the system but usually only get this if a change has been done recently and it's not been bled.

What speed were you stopping from? - ah you said 40-50. That's quite slow really, she should stop on a sixpence.
Did the ABS function?
