There is Edge on offer (1 litres), though it is for the VW's - so wrong specification.

Although if you go to opie atm there is 1 litre free with the 4 litre - £40 ish is better than £63 in halfords.

I know they are a lot cheaper than the rest and they have a huge understanding of oil and anyhting related to it ( this is is a rarity nowdays).

I have a friend that provides me with the edge professional same oil at the same price (only different between the two oils is that the edge professional has a ultraviolet pigmentation for security check).

I have always wondered if there was a blend difference but clearly not!

So as I understand it this is the fully synthetic A5/B5 spec and is suitable for the 2.0D engine ?

Yes basically you can put in 5W-30 OR 0W-30, A5/B5 specification oil.

Funnily enough Castrol recommend Castrol EDGE 0W-30 A5/B5.

Magnetec is 5W-30 (which is what the manual states in big stickers etc. but in the handbook allows for the 0W-30 to be used in "adverse conditions" although the Edge is a better oil as a whole), differences well 'mag is quite a "low grade" fully synth against Edge.

This is the oil and spec recommended by Volvo for the 2.0D, not sure about the rest of the range.

depends on engine if it is a 4 cylinder engine for example the 1.6D/D2 then 5W-30 it is for all, if it is 5 cylinder then it is 0W-30 Edge because of the nature of longer term intervals (18K not 12.5K like in 4 cylinder, the 2.0D was the oddity as it could use 5W-30 OR 0W-30)

Quick question - when my next service is due (currently on 65,000 miles so should be due in summer) I intend to use an independent Volvo specialist - rather than main dealer. Do you guys insist on or supply a particular oil to be used or rely on the garage to make the decision ?
Additionally has anyone any experience of using this garage ?
