Something in the back of my mind is saying that was on ebay in Southampton around July time for *very* small money, I think it's the one I was going to go look at but it'd sold by the time I got there.

I much rather have a 1.4 than a 1.7 for reliability.

Interesting I thought people would have prefered the 1.7 over the 1.4...

Depends what you want it for. The 1.7 needs treating to constant attention to keep it running right, most don't. But, when it is working, in my mind it's the sweetest of the 300's to drive. Not the fastest, nor the torquest, but the nippiest, mostest fun etc.

1.4's need less in the way of constant carb de warpings.

And the distributor doesn't breakdown,.. ever, due to its sensible location vertically above any oil pools, strangely similar to the super reliable 360.

Did you mean a pillarbox Red 340 1.4? It was seen on the VOC over in Ipswich, then bought and migrated to Southampton from whence we bought it. And it is luvverly.

I've seen your car about Joe

No, this was a grey 340 GLE SE around July time (might have been earlier)

Tony, you make a fair point about the dizzy. The other with the 1.7 location I've had before (cost me a rally once) is top hose splits on the tight 90 into the stat housing, high pressure water jet straight into the cap.... Have you ever driven a proper working one though? It makes it all ok!
