Is it a genuine egr valve as ive seen a couple with none genuine valves that continue to log fault codes even with new valves fitted

Have a close look at egr valve connector and where there is abit cut out along the bottom lower edge of the connector,

Get some side cutters and trim a little more of it off so it clips down better onto the egr valve as later ones have a bigger motor on them and connector needs modding to fit,

Yep, the EGR valve and associated section of the MAP can't be changed, or it would be illegal as regards EU emissions standards and a direct breach of the MOT regs.

Not sure what is going on with this engine, but to start with it would be good to service it correctly. That includes cleaning or replacing the EGR valve, cleaning the intake, replacing the fuel filter, air filter AND making sure there are no hidden fault codes relating to the MAF sensor in particular. If there are, then it should be cleaned with a special spray cleaner (Or top quality switch cleaner), or replaced if the elements are broken.

One possible shortcut is to use Liqui Moly Pro-line diesel intake cleaner, that should clean the intake and might help clean the EGR slightly, BUT a good Sunday morning motorway session will do more for the EGR and CAT.

Note: CRC make a good MAF sensor cleaner if you don't want to try the Halfrauds, or the more expensive LM one.
