Red face 2004 V70 - "Check Engine" light

My 2004 Volvo V70's check engine light came on, indicating a problem with the "Ambient Air Temperature Sensor". Since the dash is recording the correct outside temperature, I replaced the sensor in the driver's side mirror (left) - but the check engine light is still on. Will the light eventually clear itself, or do I need to take it someplace to have the code cleared? I have only driven the car about 30 miles since the repair was made.

You could try a cold reset by disconnecting the battery ten minutes after turning the ignition off. Cross connecting the vehicles +ve and -ve battery connection cables for a few seconds, and then re-connecting the battery.

Remember to put the ignition key back in the lock and turn it to Position 2 BEFORE YOU RECONNECT THE BATTERY - it helps prevent the spike when you reconnect the battery triggering the air bags - in any event, make sure nobody is sat in the front seats when you reconnect the battery.

If that doesn't work - beg or borrow a code reader e.g. an Autel or Dice that will clear and reset the codes.
