1964 P1800S Sill Panels
Having stripped my 1800s down to a bare metal shell, I am now up to my neck (or is that over my head)in rusty bits. In order to save some money I decided to fabricate my own repair panels for the sills with the exception of the sill cover or outer which I got from Brookhouse.
I cant figure out how the outer sill is supposed to fit to the center (step) panel at the bottom. My new outer panel steps out about 10mm along most of its length with a very small flange. This means that when I offer it up there is a 10mm ish gap except at the front where it welds to the bottom flange behind the front wing and the back where it welds directly to the centre panel behind the rear wing. Is the centre panel supposed to step out to meet the outer or is there supposed to be a gap? Are there any drawings or photos of the sill structure available as the illustrations in the manual/parts list are not very good. Any help much appreciated http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/dc/user_files/1422.jpg |

yes there is supposed to be a gap of about 1/4 inch. It is the inner and middle sills that give the structure the majority of its strength. Also if you welded the outer to the middle/inner sections and seam welded it up there would be no way for water to escape.
