Default Rare Classic 1993 Volvo 940 saloon

Up until this day (31 July 2018) has been my families one and only everyday car. In the 10years I have owned it we have been from Bristol area to Scotland three or four times and many more holidays and has been a reliable old faithful.

I am now retired and on limited income so when the news came that it had failed its MOT we despaired. (MOT valied until 27 August so still driveable)

Failed on exhaust emissions (CO only) and an oil leak from somewhere on the engine that has now become an MOT failure. Has dripped oil since first purchase but have never had to top up between annual services.

10 years of full service history from independent Volvo specialist with the same two mechanics throughout plus plenty of other earlier history.

Looking for a caring owner to continue TLC. Photos and further details available. £250 anyone?

I'm interested.

Where abouts are you? What engine? Does the car have a glass sunroof? Is the car taxed/insured to get home?

Thanks,

Joe.

Hi Jonny
To answer your questions
Engine is petrol 2litre naturally aspitated (is that the B200?) injection
The car does have a sunroof but not glass. I have frequently used the tilt for fresh air but have not opened the full sunroof for some time. It does not leak at all (as I have had with a previous model!) and wanted to make sure it stayed that way.

The car is currently insured but only for my wife and myself. The car is currently taxed but under the new regulations that too only applies to me.

I am located in Worle, Somerset not far from junction 21 of M5. Did I see you are in Durham? I would happily drive it too you (for a positive sale) but then it would cost me to get home as we don't have a second car.

If still interested I can send more details/photos when I've put them together. I can be contacted direct on alanlflower@hotmail.com

cheers

Alf

I have now purchased a 2002 S60 from the garage that does all my servicing so now although the MOT is until 27 August I need to remove it from my ownershi by the 20th for insurance purposes.

As a bonus to a new owner there is about 3/4 tank of petrol - at least 200 miles worth as I had just filled up before the MOT. If I had the time (and the knowledge/ability) I would identify the source of the oil leak myself as that is the bit that would cost the most - finding it

Easiest contact is on alanlflower@hotmail.com

Classic Volvo 940 rare saloon model. This is a 1993 Volvo 940 SE Saloon; 2 litre; non-turbo; auto, 235 thousand miles believed genuine with a full service history this last 10 years and some from 1993 onwards.
Last 10 years has always been maintained by Independent Volvo Specialist where, until this year, all adviseries have been dealt with except for an oil leak. This leak has been there since my purchase 10 years ago but I have never had to top up between annual services. It is only the change in MOT regs that has made this a fail and I do not feel competent to find it myself nor able to afford for the garage to go through the procedure of finding it.
The car is still thoroughly reliable and I would have had no hesitation in driving it to Lake District in October and Scotland next April.
My garage offered me a deal I could not refuse on a 2002 S60 so, although the 940 is Mot’d until 27 August hence legally driveable (with your own tax and insurance), I need it gone by the 20th to satisfy my insurance.
Can be viewed, collected from BS22 (Worle) not far from junction 21 of M5
As a bonus to new owner there is still half a tank of fuel at the moment. (5 August)
Due to a 'non-show' from someone on this site it will be first come first served. Offers considered from anyone aiming to keep it intact.
