Finaly got the head off today.

Looks like all 4 exaust valves are bent, inlet looks OK but still to strip head down & check.

I suspect we might have a bit of mission creep here as I am noticing lots of other things that will be really easy to change with the head & fan out of the way. Will probably change all hoses for a kick off and the leaky steering rack I have been meaning to get around to might get changed as well.

Stick to making the bloody thing run before ya gets carried away with addons

You wouldn't be able to get any compression anywhere if the cambelt timing is arse about face ....... (Dunno if you re-did all that)

Its time to start having a serious think about money at this juncture, if as you said the Ex valves are bent ......

Do you strip it down, buy new valves, grind the seats & lap them back in to place, Then re shim it all, replacing all disturbed gasketry as a matter of course

Do get some other person to do that bit

Do you go to the scrappers & get a new head (Another head)

Me I'd be off down the scrappers toot suite ..... A quick spin of the camshaft will let you know whats what there...... Take some feelers to check out the shimming (Lazy man me)

Then I'd (me being me) prolly do a sooper job of the spare head, as now you have time, & perhaps swap it in at a later date (But me being me it would end up on the coffee table for months)

Check to see if the thing will start before you get all happy, with replacing all teh ancillary belts & glugging gallons of water about ........... (What I mean is try it & see if it will start........ Don't go letting it run for maore than 5 seconds with no water in ...... & don't have a quick spin down the shops either) .............. Soory I've known this & worse happen to cars in the past

If it helps I have an engine taking up room in the garage. Its out of a 'K' reg Torslanda and has covered around 150,000 miles (just run in!)

Its taking up room so I would be glad to get rid of it!

Only thing is that I am in Central Scotland. Let me know if you are interested.
