It may be possible to lever the grille up from the bottom, there are three plastic tabs that locate it in the valance panel. The alternative is to cut the two plastic retaining pins at the top using a hacksaw blade to remove the grille. From there you will be able to push the release pin to open the bonnet and facilitate replacement. Good luck!
I'm in a similar predicament where my cord is OK but the locking pin is jammed. Luckily for me, I took the grille out when I thought I had a problem. |

It should be possible to gently esae the grille upwards till the bottom lugs come out. If they break it is possible to replace them with self tappers. Until you get a replacement it is possible to fit a piece of wire to the catch and feed it through the grille as a temporary bonnet release.

The bonnet release catch can be accessed from below with a long screwdriver or similar implement. You may have to drop the bottom tray (if one is fitted). I have opened a 2-series bonnet this way in the past (in the long ago past) so I know that it is possible. There is no need to damage the grill in any way.
