Default New suspension setup

My Volvo is a 1991 240 SE 2.0ltr and I've just bought a set of Virgo alloys off the web that I plan on getting refinished. These will eventually replace the 740 alloys I picked up from Steve Curtis.

My next idea is to upgrade the suspension all round and I'm thinking of the slightly sportier GLT stye suspension kit.

I'm thinking about buying the bits and letting my local garage fit them for me but could do with some help compiling a list of parts. I know I'll need :-

Springs front/rear
Shocks front/rear
A set of poly/rubber bushes

Anything else ? I'd imagine there is. If I wanted sway bars would I be better off getting these along with the shocks/springs and giving the whole lot to the garage or are they just as easily fitted after the other parts.

If there is anywhere that sells these as a set that would be handy ? So I could buy the whole package. Would I do better going through the GSF catalogue and piecing together an order.

Any help here is much appreciated.

Regards

Ben

Unless your car's done about 180,000 miles I'd just go for the GLT or IPD swaybars and possibly rear shocks. The rest will cost you a lot of money for a small improvement if you are not going to do the work yourself.

BTW there was an upgrade to the rubber mounting for the front anti-roll bar in 1992 IIRC, I think it has a locating lug now.

There is a suspension specialist who posts on here sometimes, but I cant rember who, maybe they will chime in.

Hello there, I did exactly the same thing (started with a DL and built a GLT setup)

Best to look for a MOT failure GLT with good suspension and rob/ swap everything off.

If have the space for a parts car then this would be the best way. Always use NEW front shock absorbers as they are a big (not hard just labourious) job. you can take a chance with secondhand rear shocks as they are easy and quick to replace.

If you swap the sway bars over first you'll notice a big difference in the road holding, you can even go further and do a full dual front and back swap, butt hat isn't for the feint hearted!!

Best of Luck Andi K

There's a 240GLT for sale on the for sale section of this forum, for about £200 (its sorn ed at present) That might be cheaper than buying all the bits seperately?

The correct GLT front shocks are different to the standard ones. Some GLTs will have had these replaced by the standard ones. New ones are expensive and hard to locate. Most places supply the standard shocks if you order them new. I have a source of the correct shocks but they cost over £200 for the pair. We also can supply the poly bushes.
