Lambda Light & EGR systems
Hi
I'm back posting about lambda lights after a two year gap. My 850, P reg 2.5 20V had a lambda light problem some years ago and this was solved by fitting a new O2 sensor and pump but mainly by sticking some tape over the hose which feeds into the inlet manifold - a sneaky and hard-to-get-at hose near the power steering pump and underneath the coolant hose. It had a hole and so I patched it. Now the tape has come away - hence the lambda light and default re-setting which causes awful mpg. The hose has now deteriorated completelty. Can I just tape up this inlet? Is it easy to fit a new hose? Where does the hose come from? I've disconnected the battery and the light has gone and the engine sounds OK. What causes the lamp to light under these conditions? Is it a drop in inlet manifold pressure? Any suggestions on a remedy - temp. or permananet, would be most welcome. Steve |

RE: Lambda Light & EGR systems
Renew the rubber elbow, this provides vacuum to the crankcase at idle if you disconnect it you will end up with oil leaks & or blown seals.
The light is on because the long term fuel trim is out of limits due to the air leak. That's assuming this is the only fault you really need to read the codes to tell. If you drain some engine coolant and remove the top radiator hose it's possible to replace the rubber elbow. |
