1999 2.5td power steering pump
Hi, My power steering pump is making a whining noise. It seems to be leaking from the pulley bearing as there is fluid all over the alternator. is there anything to look out for when I tackle the job of replacing it, and where's a good place to get one, also are the petrol and diesel ones the same. Ian.

It's not a hard job to do, I took mine off when I had to change the alternator last year. Admittedly I didn't disconnect the pipes as I just had to move it out of the way, but that should be relatively straightforward. The hardest bit was moving the tensioner so I could remove the drive belt, you need a tool as you can't just do it with a socket set like you can on some cars. I ended up making the tool myself from a piece of old scrap metel. But even thats not too bad a job if you're handy with an angle grinder and you've got some scrap around.

I used an open ended spanner on the belt tensioner when I had my Tdi.

If this can be done just using a spanner that sounds much easier!
