Default Help! V70 Tdi - intermittent starting issue driving
Dear all helpful peoples
My 98 manual V70 2.5 tdi is causing me some grief for the first time in its 215k miles... -at times when key is turned the engine turns over and nothing happens -at times it catches and stutters -at times it starts fine Once going its absolutely sweet as a nut. Facts: -there are no fault codes showing -there was some air in the system but 2 mechanics think they got it out -fuel filter is properly seated and connected -the last service was 1400 miles ago -diesel pump belt is due a change -I cant work out whether its temperature related. I think not - its not started cold and not started once warm at times. Can you help? Many thanks Mods - sorry this is also in the V70/850 area - but I figured different people in both areas could help?

I suspect the belt has stretched that far that the pump timing is slightly out.
Hard starting is a very common characteristic of pump timing being adrift on these cars.

Cheak the belt tensioner as well, I had one wear badly which affected pump timeing.
