Default V50 1.8S - Rear end rattle, like empty spare wheel carrier?

We've had the car for nearly 2 years and it has been making this noise for the last 18 months. The car passed it's MOT fine and there were supposedly no signs of worn bushes etc.

It's my wife's car, but when I drive it the noise drives me nuts. A light metallic rattle which is really audible from outside the car when she drives off for work. In my mind, as per the thread title, it is the sort of thing I would expect from an empty spare carrier which isn't properly fastened up - but as the wheel is in a recess in the boot it obviously can't be that!

Having had a quick look underneath, I can't see anything obvious such as missing rubbers on the exhaust hangars or similar.

Anyone had a similar issue or able to suggest any pointers?

Ah, just realised the search function works better if I search posts and not threads . !

Just found 'rattling in the boot' thread, sounds like this could be a drop link issue perhaps? Will look into whether this is a DIY fix, but any confirmation / reassurance that I may be on the right line much appreciated!
