Default Westfalia for R-Design - MY12 or MY13

Hi all,

I have searched the forums and internet for an invisible detachable towbar like the Westfalia, and suitable for an R-design XC90. Although some have managed to install it others have mentioned spacers being required, and how difficult it can be. PF Jones website note that the Westfalia is not suitable for R-Design but a note at the bottom suggests it is possible with spacers.

Can anyone tell me whether they have managed to install either by a fitter or themselves and what model number it was?

Thanks in advance.

I am also looking to fit the detachable Westfalia to an R-design, and was looking at part 320057. I have contacted PF Jones who have confirmed that spacers are required. They state that Westfalia do not make the spacers and suggest that they might be a Volvo item.

I presume that the spacers must be to either lower the exhausts slightly so that they clear the towbar, or to lower the towbar slightly so that it clears the lower edge of the bumper. Can anyone confirm what the spacers are for?

Thanks.

I have just fitted my westfalia tow bar to my xc90 (not R design) which i purchased it from Pf jones.
I have 2 bolts, 2 washers and 2 spacers left over, instructions state for R design to lower exhaust.
Spacers are about 5/8 inch or 15mm and would appear to space the exhaust hanger plate from the chassis, lowering the exhaust.

Hope this helps

Will have a hunt for the instructions and post some pics tomorrow.
If I find them!!

Default MY2013 R-Design - Installation Instruction Manual

Hello again,

Have searched through forums and web again for the Westfalia towbar installation regarding an R-design with twin exhausts; no luck on the required spacer detail or part number for which I can order the additional spacers as PF Jones or Westfalia does not seem to be able to order them.

However, have noted that the Volvo installation diagram indicates a horizontal plate offered up to underside of car, with bolts vertical. The Westfalia diagram indicates a vertical plate offered up and in to the boot well with horizontal through bolts. Can anyone advise which is the correct detail or do both installations work? Both instructions appear valid for XC90.

Volvo instructions for XC90 2013:

https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q...kGL-wR6ZO0rOtw

Westfalia instructions:

http://www.westfalia-automotive.de/f...%20war-101.pdf

Appreciate any advice from those that have either the Westfalia or Volvo towbar installed.

Thanks in advance

Yea you are more than welcome to them but I must apologise.
It does not state R design as i said. it says xc90 sport/ xc90 V8 illustrated in fig 11b in the Westfalia fitting manual.
If the parts are of any use you can pm me your address and I will post them off to you.
Regards

Both ways work perfectly. There are black pads thet peel off to reveal the horizontal holes required ti fit the 6 bolts of the Westfalia toebar.
The volvo version you have listed is different. I believe you must remove towing eye and exhaust bracket shown in fig 11b of the Westfalia instructions. This will give you the holes required for the vertical bolts. ( I guess the tow bar goes on followed by the exhaust bracket and towing eye on their respective sides)
YouTube has a good video of the second tow bar installation.

Sorry for the split posts but I'm trying to hit the magic 30 so I can pm.
