Mahle Pistons in B20
I have a damaged Mahle piston from a B20 engine, which needs replacing. All the other B20 pistons I have from other engines, are cylindrical. The damaged one is flat-sided where the gudgeon-pin is inserted. The gudgeon-pin is of a slightly larger diameter than the others I have and the con-rod appears to be of stronger construction. Have I come across a competition engine or was this standard equipment on (say) the B20E engine? Also, I desparately need to find another matching piston. The markings are "88D4++" & "C141".
Any assistance would be most gratefully received. . . |

RE: Mahle Pistons in B20
Let me update my own query with what I've found out; thanks to Andi Crellin and Rob Henchoz of Amazon Cars. The piston that I described was fitted to B20 engines from 1974 onwards ie the last of the line. The gudgeon pin is of 24mm diameter as compared with 22mm for the earlier engines. There were two further sub-divisions for this type of piston (stamped 'G' or 'D') the 'G' designation being slightly larger than the 'D'. Both were apparently fitted as standard.
Hope this may be of interest to someone. . . |
