If Volvo have any sort of decency, they will tend to this problem free of charge. It litterary only takes seconds to do. Hook up, ignition on, find fan and run it.
This being said, you could of course have other problems causing this but it is unlikely. Have you had the car read for troublecodes? I will advice that you have the CEM connectors cleaned, they do corrode, reaking havoc with your cars electrics. If ECU does not get satisfactory signal from coolant sensor or the wired connection between sensor and ecu is broken. The fan should default to run approx full speed all the time. As it no longer sees a signal it wants to protect the engine by running the fan. This is also true for older models, like the 850`s |

Yes, 4/71 is the module you're looking for, and yes, it would by hard to test as it activates the fan using a PWM "Pulse Width Modulated" signal from the ECM which only VIDA can simulate I believe.
