Default Why?

My 2014 V70 D5 manual has 310ft/lb torque. but the auto D5 develops 325ft/lb torque.
However, if I pay Volvo £835 I can have my car "optimised" ( Polestared) to 347ft/lb of torque, which is the same figure as the V70 auto D5 after it too is "optimised"
Should I feel unloved in that my car is not only not "optimised", but is even less "not optimised" than the D5 Auto as standard.
The sceptic in me asks why would Volvo produce two engine types when one would be more cost effective. I asked Volvo, was there a reliability concern over the manual gearbox/clutch. ( like the early V70 AWD R auto which I read had the torque limited in 1st & 2nd gear) and if not, why was there a difference in torque outputs, which when both engines were "optimised" disappeared. I got no answer, instead they got my dealer to call, but I was not convinced/understood the reasons they put forward.
Anyone got a view??

Cheers

Bob

It won't be two engine types, but just software changes to the engine management.

Yep ok ... but why have TWO types when one would do. Don't make sense.

That figures... Manufactures more conscious of IMAGE now than SUBSTANCE.

I notice manufactures (Jag F-Pace) only available with auto box if you want more power than bottom of the range. Volvo don't have a manual V90. Grrrr!

Looks like I'll be keeping my manual 5 pots longer than I intended.

Cheers

Bob.
