Default Volvo V60 Manual, Parking brake "not applied" warning

I own a Volvo V60 T4 SE LUX, 6 speed manual transmission. I bought the vehicle in Jan 2023 and it was first registered in Dec 2017.

Something I forget to do on a fairly regular basis is apply the electric parking brake when I'm leaving the vehicle.

On 2 or 3 occasions, when I've forgotten to apply the handbrake a message came up on the dash saying "Warning, Parking Brake not applied", which led me to believe there was a fault with the system. The car has been back to the main dealer who has replaced the parking brake switch, but that hasn't fixed the fault.

I've asked Volvo UK support how my vehicle should operate and they said "We can confirm that there is no reminder warning informing the handbrake has not been applied on this model".

My question to anyone with an electric parking brake and manual transmission, is do you ever see the "Warning, Parking Brake not applied" message.

Hi, I've an auto not manual '12 V60 D2 and failing rear calliper motors caused this message for me for me..

Could be a sign the calipers are on their way out? Next time you get this message, jack up the rear wheels and manually test to see if the parking brake is applied correctly TO BOTH WHEELS by trying to turn the wheel by hand. This is how I figured out my callipers had failed to apply the parking brake correctly.

Good luck

Hi DA, Thanks for the tip. I saw the message in my car a few weeks before Volvo advised the rear pads were down to 90% and replaced tem. I haven't seen the message since, so maybe that's how it works.
