Tensioners on mine were quiet for the first couple of minutes then started to grumble after a few minutes. Yours sound the opposite.
I would expect them to be quiet when cold then start to make a noise once warmed up. To go quiet after some minutes suggests some lube is getting to whatever is causing the problem.

Ok, cheers chaps - I'll try to give these a go this weekend.
I'm surprised the dealer mechanics didn't look into this if it's a common D5 issue, if only to rule it out. But maybe they didn't want to

I had exactly the same sound on a suzuki van and a suzuki jimny that I used to own and it was the alternator putting a good charge through from cold, it was only noticeable from cold start, so maybe the noise could be coming from the alternator.
